About StarterBench
StarterBench helps first-time buyers choose 3D printing gear with honest, beginner-focused buying guides.
Updated
StarterBench exists for one reader: the person buying their first 3D printer. Not the hobbyist with five machines, but the beginner staring at twenty listings that all claim to be "the best", with no idea which one won't waste their money.
How we evaluate
- Specs, verified. Every claim we repeat is checked against the manufacturer's own published specifications and documentation, not marketing copy or a competitor's summary.
- Owner reviews, aggregated. We read what large numbers of actual buyers report: failure modes, assembly pain, support quality. Patterns across many reviews beat any single opinion, including ours.
- Price and value. A "best" pick at the wrong price is bad advice, so we weigh what each dollar buys a beginner.
- Hands-on testing, growing. Where we own the machine, we print with it and photograph it. Our bench is small today and grows with the site, and every pick says whether it was tested hands-on or chosen from research.
